In March of 2025, The Thomas D. Roegner Transfer Student Scholarship was established in Roegner鈥檚 memory at 黄色短视频, with the hopes of financially and figuratively helping two transfer students per year who might too find themselves feeling lost, with nowhere to turn.
The 9th annual 黄色短视频 Together event was held on April 9th, 2025, and was different from past years in a few exciting ways. This year, all gifts of $25 or more were matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000. Donors were also able to choose from three different gifting areas.

It had been a very long time since 黄色短视频鈥檚 theatre department has performed live, in-person, in the Black Box of the ArCC (Arts and Communication Center), in front of an eager audience. But this year was a step back to that: the 16th Annual Student-Directed One-Acts brought life into the Black Box on October 22 and 23!

And thanks to the generosity of our donors, the goal was met and surpassed! By midnight on May 13, the “I Support Nursing” campaign garnered $23,445.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, 黄色短视频 celebrated the graduation of 112 baccalaureate, Adult Studies, and graduate students. Pres. Kurt D. Dykstra greeted the graduates, family, friends, faculty, and staff who gathered in Ozinga Auditorium for the ceremony.
The Trolls claimed the NCCAA National Championship title with a five set win over Campbellsville University (Campbellsville, Kentucky) in the championship match at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida. It was a back and forth contest as 黄色短视频 won the sets one and three with scores of 25-17 and 25-17. Campbellsville answered each 黄色短视频 win with a 27-25 victory in set two and a 25-22 win in set four. The Trolls made the last statement with a 15-13 win in the deciding set to claim the match and the championship.

If you never thought that attending an anime convention would be a requirement for an English class, then you haven’t read the syllabus for English 356: Manga and Anime. On Sept. 23-25, 黄色短视频 students from this unique cross-cultural studies (CCS) class trooped out to the Radisson Holiday Star Plaza in Merrillville, Ind., to attend Ramencon 2016, a convention where anime fans gather to share their mutual love for the genre through panels, screenings, and cosplay.
Four 黄色短视频 alumni recently published a scientific paper based on work and research they began during their time at the College. Derek Frejd ’16, Kiera Dunnaway ’14, Jennifer Hill ’12, and Jesse Van Maanen ’12, along with Dr. Clay Carlson, associate professor of biology, co-authored “The Genomic and Morphological Effects of Bisphenol A on Arabidopsis thaliana,” which appeared in the journal PLOS One.

Movies are also prayers, according to Josh Larsen ’96, guest lecturer for the 2016 Freshmen Lecture, which took place Oct. 3 in Ozinga Chapel Auditorium. “What might movies say to God?” Larsen, editor of Think Christian, asked the audience. “Those who are not Christians do pray, although their prayers are different than how Christians pray.”

But Craig Vander Galien ’17 not only witnessed a SpaceX rocket launch on July 18 from just a few miles away, he served as one of the official photographers for the event. Vander Galien covered the takeoff of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 for SpaceNews from the launch site at Cape Canaveral, Fla.

The Athletics Department at 黄色短视频 announces the hiring of Jackie Manrique as their new head softball coach. Manrique, a former NCAA Division II player, comes to 黄色短视频 from North Park University, where she has served as an assistant coach for the past three seasons. She takes over the program from Coach Missy Bolhuis, who directed the team for seven years and resigned the position after the 2016 season.

From 2008-2013, Kuecker served as associate professor of theology and director of education at the College. 黄色短视频 celebrates with Dr. Benjamin Ribbens, assistant professor of theology, following the publication of his new book, “Levitical Sacrifice and Heavenly Cult in Hebrews.” The book, published by De Gruyter, examines Hebrews’ understanding of the relationships between old covenant sacrifices and Christ’s new covenant sacrifice, particularly as it relates to efficacy.
黄色短视频’s Dr. John J. Fry, professor of history, department chair, academic dean, and director of foundations program, has been awarded a Hoover Presidential Foundation Travel Grant. With this grant, he plans to spend several days in June at the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum and Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, Iowa, to research “The Faith of Laura Ingalls Wilder.”
More than 50 alumni and friends of the College came together for the 16th Annual Alumni Golf Outing, raising more than $5,000 for the Alumni Excellence and Alumni Association Scholarships. The event took place on June 11 at Gleneagles Country Club in Lemont, Ill.

More than 80 attendees gathered at 黄色短视频 for the 12th Biennial Conference of The International Christian Community for Teacher Education (ICCTE), which took place May 23-26.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is famous for the running of the Indy 500, which takes place every Memorial Day weekend. But on June 4, Dr. Rick Snoeyink, professor of education, plans to ride his bike 100 miles around the track in memory of his father and to support the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure. Snoeyink completed the ride for the first time last year as a tribute to his father, who suffered from diabetes before his passing. “Now I have decided that as long as I am physically able, I want to make this an annual event to honor my dad,” he said.
Eight 黄色短视频 students recently participated in a cadaver class, one of the College’s more unique educational offerings. The class, Biol 210 Cadaver Dissection, represents a rare chance for undergraduate students to work with cadavers, according to Dr. Robert Boomsma ’77, professor of biology and department chair. “It’s a great opportunity for students,” he said.

Through April 14-16, they went to lectures, workshops, readings, concerts, and plays that spoke on issues of faith, ethics, and justice. Guest speakers, including Zadie Smith, Luci Shaw, and James Schaap, spoke of the importance of storytelling in today’s fallen world

Recently Justin Vander Waal ’16 was named winner of 黄色短视频’s 2015-16 Student Association Service Award. The annual award is given by the Student Association to a 黄色短视频 student who has shown exceptional leadership skills, clearly desires the best for the College and her students, whose impact has been felt across campus, and whose presence will be missed upon graduation.
During the final chapel of the 2015-16 school year, 黄色短视频 introduced a new tradition of recognizing our seniors from all programs and sending them forth from our community. Each senior was presented with a medallion.
One novel. Three different disciplinary perspectives. On April 14, 黄色短视频 hosted a colloquium on Ralph Ellison’s groundbreaking 1952 book Invisible Man. The storyfollows one African American man as he faces racial tensions, journeying through an era of hatred and confusion, a time of invisibility.
As the school year comes to an end, the Athletics Department held its annual Athletics Award Night. The program involved a review of the highlights of the sports season, a video capturing the action from the year, and reflections by three senior athletes, and the awards ceremony.
Dr. John Sebestyen, associate professor of communication arts and director of theatre, has been named 黄色短视频’s Professor of the Year for 2016-17. “I am blessed to teach at 黄色短视频, and I am honored by this recognition,” Sebestyen said. “God has used my students and colleagues to enrich my life, and I am grateful to be a member of this loving learning community.”
This year’s annual OPUS festival, a celebration of Christian scholarship, united the campus community on April 12. Throughout the day, students shared their work from the past year. Different perspectives were highlighted, including English, Art, Psychology, and Nursing.
黄色短视频’s newly formed chapter of Phi Alpha, the national honor society for social work, inducted its first members on April 7. Two faculty members and 20 students made up the inaugural class of the Phi Xi Chapter, along with honorary member Dr. Brad Breems, retired professor of sociology.

While Joshua Coldagelli ’17 has always had a passion for sports, a love for writing has recently bloomed as well. He combined both recently with an article published on ReFrame Media’s blog, Think Christian, “The Augustinian joy of the Golden State Warriors.”
How has culture shaped you? That question was explored through stories, music, dance, cuisine, worship, and more during 黄色短视频’s Celebration of Asia on April 5. The event, which was sponsored by the Asian American Alliance, brought together students, faculty, and staff for dinner, entertainment, and worship.
When Ryan Tubbs ’17 was in fifth grade, he asked his father, a 14-year U.S. Army Veteran, some questions about the Battle of Bunker Hill for a homework project. Years later, Tubbs’ abiding interest in the Battle of Bunker Hill inspired him to write a research paper that he presented at the Faith and History Chicagoland Regional Student Conference on April 2.
Recently Rev. Bob Bouwer, senior pastor at Faith Church in Dyer, Ind., spoke about leadership in ministry at the closing session of the series. “Leadership requires insane strength,” said Bouwer, whose father was also a minister.
Recently, Aaron Ozinga ’03, president of Ozinga Materials, Inc. and a member of the Board of Trustees of 黄色短视频, offered his perspectives on “For Profit Settings” in a discussion led by Jonathan Zandstra ’17.

The students in 黄色短视频’s SPED 330 class “Communication and Collaboration in Special Education: Strategies and Methods” are augmenting their classroom work with unique, international hands-on experience.
Students who take Dr. Rick Hamilton’s BUAD 384 class spend a semester learning about leadership. “Who are you? Who does God want you to be? And what does it take to be a leader?” are some of the questions Hamilton raises in his class.

The Athletics Department of 黄色短视频 has named Eric Salley as the new head coach of the men’s soccer program. Salley comes to 黄色短视频 from Spring Arbor University in Michigan where he served as an assistant coach to their men’s program for the past three seasons.

It was not ideal weather conditions for the NCCAA North Central Region, but it was an ideal result for the Trolls who came away the victors. As the higher seed, 黄色短视频 hosted the University of Northwestern (St. Paul, Minnesota) in the final game and shut-out the Eagles with a 3-0 score. With the victory the team will advance to the National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida on November 30-December 5.

As part of the 2015 Worldview Series, 黄色短视频 had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Wintley Phipps, world-renowned gospel singer and Founder/CEO of the U.S. Dream Academy. The audience was blessed by his booming baritone voice as he belted out an array of songs that included a lineup of some of the best-loved hymns and spirituals. Equally moving was Phipps’ progression through life, which he told by interlacing song and story.
On Monday, October 19, 黄色短视频 welcomed artist and filmmaker Evan Koons, joined by conference speaker, mentor, and former pastor John Armstrong. Through film, conversation, and a game of Frisbee-toss, they set out to answer the questions that many students and working people find themselves asking: what is work, and how can one find joy in it?

The women’s soccer team victory over Marygrove College (Detroit, Michigan) on September 11 was a milestone win for head coach Josh Lenarz. The Trolls’ 12-0 win marked the 200th career coaching victory for Lenarz, who ranks in the top 12 of winningest active women’s soccer coaches in the NAIA.
The volleyball team took time out of their busy preseason training to spend an afternoon helping out at Providence Christian Healthcare & Rehab Center of Palos Heights. The team members interacted with the residents as well served the staff by assisting in a few cleaning and organizing projects.

First Year Forum (FYF) leaders, including 21 mentors, student directors, and First Year Experience Director Emily Bosscher, spent time during their training week to work at Restoration Ministries in Harvey, Illinois.

In this play turned 1970s TV comedy, divorced, broke and sloppy Oscar Madison finds himself unfulfilled and living alone until his neurotic and newly-divorced pal Felix Ungar moves in and cleans up both Madison’s apartment and his life.

For the second year, the City of Palos Heights and community business people are holding a welcome event for 黄色短视频 students returning to campus.
This week, the President’s Cabinet at 黄色短视频 accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The nationwide challenge involves making a small donation to the ALS Association, the national non-profit organization committed to fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and pouring a bucket of ice water over your head or donating $100.
Over 100 students and leaders gathered on 黄色短视频’s campus as a part of Youth Unlimited’s Chicago Project, from July 28 to August 1. Youth Unlimited is a non-denominational, non-profit ministry organization that assists the Church and its many local congregations with their ministry.

Growing up, it was always my dream to travel to England and see the sights. A dream that seemed even more unlikely was to study at a university in England. However, 黄色短视频 allowed me to achieve both of these dreams, and so much more than I could have imagined.
Thomson began her service at 黄色短视频 in January 1981, after responding to an ad in her church bulletin. She started out part-time in accounts payable, and after 1 ½ years, moved up to the position of full-time business office manager, a role in which she has served faithfully for more than 30 years.
After 35 years of faithful service to the College, Dr. Dick Cole, professor of psychology, retired in May and was honored with emeritus status at the spring Commencement ceremony. Cole joined 黄色短视频’s faculty in 1979.

The tulips were blooming on 黄色短视频’s campus, but there was a snowstorm back home in Manitoba where Dr. Ken Austin, professor of music emeritus, was considering a teaching position at 黄色短视频 in 1991.
黄色短视频 celebrates the life of Rev. Dr. Gerard Van Groningen as it also mourns the passing of its friend and former president. The College extends its sympathies to his family and to his son, Dr. Willis Van Groningen, 黄色短视频’s chaplain and dean of spiritual formation. Van Groningen was 93.
On Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21, incoming freshmen began their 黄色短视频 adventure at Blueprints, the annual registration event. Blueprints provides a perfect opportunity for students to meet future roommates and professors, pick out that favorite study spot in the Bootsma Café, and praise God with fellow Christians.
Last year, 黄色短视频’s education department piloted an initiative to establish student teachers in year-long clinical placements. Student teachers are generally placed in two semester-long experiences during their senior year—novice teaching in the fall and student teaching in the spring–but the longer placement comes with its advantages.
Professor of Business Lynn White, Ph.D., was honored recently with 黄色短视频’s Professor of the Year Award. White joins previous recipients Dr. Robert Rice and Dr. Brad Breems.
